DE'ATH DELIVERED

So glad to read in Anna Raccoon's always-excellent Raccoon Arms that Wilf has escaped the 'famous actress' and her spurious spume.

Alors and phew! He lives to deliver his de'athless prose another day in the must-read Oldie.

As you see on the right, WD is defiant to the end and is foolhardy enough to let slip that the vindictive vedette has a daughter.

Once upon a time, when the Corfucian Irregulars included boffins from my ranks in the Amazon galley on both sides of the Pond, I wreaked some damage uncovering lurkers and shirkers from behind my Ionian rampants.

Today, they'd nick me in a trice.

Anyway, bravo Ms Raccoon who, in her incisive prose, trumpets thus:

"So, the first of the Yewtree branches has crashed to the ground, a sound virtually unheard in the forest of bad news today.
So much for the ‘famous actress’ (I had to look her up, such a household name was she).
We are not allowed to mention her name – her publicist must be devastated - who alleged that Wilfred De’Ath [left, I definitely had to look him up] might have fondled her when she might have been a teenager in it might have been a cinema, but who has now decided to withdraw her allegation.
She still maintains it is true, but feels that she will be lonely in court, since no one else has come forward with similar allegations about the same man.
She only came forward to Yewtree, she says, in the hope that it might give others the courage to come forward."

Excellent piece and Anna keeps her eye on the ball:

"Since posting this, I have seen two further posts by Moor Larkin and Chris Barratt, that are perfect examples of the art of blogging.
Beautifully researched and written, they are essential reading for anyone following the trail of disingenuous ‘witnesses’ to the Savile saga.

Both fine examples of the sort of investigative work that the main stream media should be doing – but are failing to do so, for their own reasons. Do take the time to read them."
DUNCROFT/SAVILE ~ I really should stay in more - how I wish I'd come across this nonpareil blog and De'ath thread when I had the bit between my teeth and was churning out my own paeans of praise for Wilf et al.

TOXIC EMOTIONS

Perfect URL to fend off conversation.

What I've been looking for, a support link to feed people along with short-cut briefings to 'Piece of Work', potted details of the theft itself, gardenry exposed, yadda yadda ...

I'm too busy to dredge up old emotions or rants ~ I thrill too much rephrasing and exploring current bubbling toxica.

I remember where i last heard that word. Some sympathetic creature told me about a book examining 'toxic families'. Didnt sound all that interesting, not as thrilling and rewarding as my own turns of phrase.

SOCIAL ATROPHY

DIS-CONNECT.

  • Exactly the sort of accurate article I hate - or do i mean fear? - to read.
  • I'm already muscle-atrophied from basking in my freedom from vile gardenry. Now I have to cope with lack of 'plasticity' in the playground.
  • Un-connected, ill-attuned.
  • Vote me low vagal.
  • I love the idea of the 'heart's capacity for friendship'.
As always, these things come badly timed:

  • Tonight is the Birthday of the Year, the one glittering occasion to which le tout corfou jostles for an invitation.
  •  I have made the cut and need to be at my effervescentest.
  • April loometh and with it my annual 'Piece of Work' tribute to my girls' stolen jewels.
  • April 7th, to be exact. A Sunday.
  • Strawberries and champagne on what had better be a sun-drenched lawn, muzak booming from the speakers, animals walked and caulked.

LIFE WITHOUT DRUGS - Russell Brand

This also just appeared in The Spectator which usually means I can't share it because the Speccie is proprietorial about its stuff and only gives me 10 or so reads.

But the good old Grauniad also ran it - perhaps part of Red Nose Day.

Who knows what might work and what gets glossed over as the same ol' same old?
Doesn't he look gorgeously handsome and fresh-faced on the left.

Brand talks of people like me getting free of drugs and alcohol and then making sure we 'retain contact with the support that is available to keep them clean'. Talks of 'abstinence-based recovery.

Something called Give-It-Up.

Something about retaining contact with available support.

I live here on my own and I don't know a goddam'd person to trust, bore or embarrass or who hasn't pilfered my cowardly caregiving ass off from Day 1, March 11 2006.

So it's no use talking to me about available support but what I will do is write to the Speccie and thank them (and RB) for the article and make the usual addict's vow to do something about it and track down a 'Hello. You all right, mate?' buddy and ... take it from there. Or here.

“What future for tourism in Corfu?”

The report of the excellent Dr Skinner's March 13 paper and key-note speech on the decline in tourism in Corfu, and strategies to overcome this decline.

Dr Skinner was joined by a panel including representatives of the Corfu Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Ionian University, and the President of the Union of Hotel Managers.

The whole thing was simultaneously translated with hypnotic skill by one 'Theo', whose hand I would dearly like to shake and thank in person.

Would-be Housers

Faulks is no fool. He couldnt need the non-money.

I feel protective of Plum, not because I dread reading/hearing the flubbed attempts by ignoranter idiots to take him on, so to speak, but because in a way I'm protecting me ...

"Somewhat ineffectual in real life he revealed his power in his prose. Wodehouse’s gift was not necessarily as a crafter of great plots – few would contest that his stories are somewhat repetitive in nature – but in his mastery of language.
His words dance off the page and into the brain where they fizz around like the bubbles in fine champagne ... giddy cocktail of allusion and reference that pervades his work.
Indeed, by stealth, he inculcated into readers without the remotest chance of enjoying his academic wealth enough knowledge of Cicero, Shakespeare and Spinoza to get them through the most demanding cocktail party."

The same way no-one can take on The Diary of a Nobody. Or 'Saki'.

SACRED MUSICS OF THE WORLD

  • This blogging lark is a push-over, I tell you.
  • I have many cool and learnèd followers whom I couldn't possibly keep up with or bluff if I didn't have jovial Jimmy Potts and his CorfuBlues treasure store to pilfer and pass off as le mien.
  • But it takes élan - just knowing when and how to use that word takes élan.
  •  I mean, this hootenany of Sacred Music of the World (de-pluralise it so it doesnt sound so ... Pottsian).
  • Slide on into the topic, "Going thru some old pics of that gap year in Morocco - me in a Fez, Dalida in almost nothing but a tasseled D-cup makeshift fez-bra ... I suddenly remembered there's some action going down around the June 2013 Fes Festival.
  • Might grab the old oud  عود‎ ʿūd (owd oud? LOL) and head on down there, meet up with some the boys whoever's still standing.

SUGAR FAIL

But Sugar is such a bogus type, anyway.

He has no screen presence whatsoever and his stubbly diminutive bully-boy act comes off as laughable at best.

His clone 'apprentices' only mirror and heighten his humiliation.

This here is a typical vulgar clueless publicity hand-job to salvage flagging eyeballs.

Trump had it right with the original.

CAVE TWITTER

I've never liked Twitter. Fear it, and I'm busy enough wittering on at length in Facebook or blog.

The excellent James Delingpole confirms all the worst I've feared  from instinct or experience.

P or not-P

  • Algorithms that run quickly are said to be class P. The letter stands for ‘polynomial’—yes, it’s starting to sound like math now—which describes how rapidly the computational time grows as the size of the input increases.
All other algorithms are not-P, and run too slowly to be useful,

  • We can prove beyond a shadow of doubt that some problems are not-P. “Write every possible book” is an example: whichever algorithm you use, it has to output the answer, and that takes forever.
The class NP rules out silly problems like this one. It pins down the potentially hard problems that have short and snappy answers.

  • The letters stand for “nondeterministic polynomial” ~ and the n-word means that you guess.
Got you all titivated and sexed up? Knew I would.
